Did the processor and mother board fry?
    « on: December 04, 2007, 07:18:45 PM »
I was having some problems with a processor and motherboard. Restarts and freezes. After troubleshooting for awhile I decided to take the computer apart and fornd that the assembly for the processor heatsink had broke and there was not a tight connection. The thing that made me take the computer apart in the first place was that the computer had become unresponsive on boot up, I mean it would not boot up. Is it possible that the processor or mother board fried?

Well , if your heatsink had actually failed without you knowing , theres a good chance your cpu has overheated and died .

If your computer boots , i doubt there is a major issue with your cpu at the moment .

Whats the model of the cpu ???

If its a p4 3.2ghz i have reason to belive it only takes a min maybe less for those to overheat , good old information from one of computer hopes top posters there .

    Tony :)

Its a 2.6 northwood, oh well, if it is dead at least its only my forth spare :), I have three more. Two dual core and one 3.2. Good thing it was the 2.6.

Have you tried it with a new heatsink assembly and fresh thermal paste ? ?
Probably the only way to tell for sure...
