    video card - mobo compatibility
    « on: December 07, 2007, 01:29:59 PM »
    hello everyone ,

had this problem a while ago where i tried to use a Geforce MX - 64 MB Card on a P3 Mobo but after booting,it showed an error of incompatbility..

which drives me to ask : how do i know "for sure" that a certain
video card(PCI-E or AGP) will work on a mobo - is it like : "any PCI-Express Card(high or low end) will work perfectly on any mobo that has a PCI-E slot" ?  or is it just a matter of luck ?

    thanks

Apparently, you don't know what type slots you have, since no PIII has PCI Express.  So, forget about PCI-E.  Was the Geforce MX an AGP card or a PCI card, or do you not know?

If you have an AGP slot, I believe you can use any AGP 4X/8X AGP card, assuming your power supply is adequate to support the card.  However, if you give us the exact make and model of your computer, we can be more definite.

And, any PCI video card you'd find on the market now should work in a PCI slot in your computer.

as well as any PCI-E card. assuming that the motherboard has at least one PCI-E slot @ 16X.

here is a specific make model :

          -Asus Intel P35 P5K Socket LGA 775 + Dual Channel ..
          -Intel Core2 Duo, E6750 (2,66GHz)  , 4MB , 1333MHz 775

running an 8800 GTS in the future(a different GC will be installed on the mobo for a while b4 the upgrade) ??
