How to change a password in Windows 2000?
« on: December 14, 2007, 08:02:35 AM »
Hello, I've got a friend who can't remember his password for anything, this is on a Windows 2000 system, and I was wondering, instead of formatting the whole shebang, is there a way I can just reset the password to the windows login?

Well, here's one option but it cost $40.  http://www.password-reset.com/?gclid=CL-wuKqGqJACFReQGgodzkud6g

Another one: Windows Key, $45.

Ah, found some freebies: Top 4 Free Windows Password Recovery Tools

I haven't used any of these, so I can't recommend a specific tool for this.

    Try this
    http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/

Its free and I know it works, I have used it a few times

Its quite straight forward, you have to create a linux boot disk (Note this is an image on the above website, with instructions, just follow that) and then boot from it. It then gives you the option to change the admin password after it boots up
