My internet explorer is infected with a virus please help

I think when i posted the first post i was missing a lot of info, i was not able to edited so here is the info missing:

1)My computer system is a windows xp/ media center edition

2) the error message is a lot of pop up and gets me out of my screes some read the following:
windows security alert, download spyware remover or epivapin.exe or  uclenear.com

3) computer  is a hp pavillion media center

4) this occurred while my son was downloading songs.
