i thought we were on 7.04 feisty fawn...

Nope, it's been updated to 7.10 Gutsy Gibon, which now natively supports reading and writing to NTFS volumes.

    7.10 was launched in October.

ne ways someone tell me about their opinion on Knoppix. thats what im working on on this thread:
      http://www.computerhope.com/forum/index.php/topic,48346.msg302398.html

but what do you think about it. it seems cool from the images and reviews ive read on it... but i want to know some peoples opinions on it about compatibility (with stuff like usb devices), Usability, etc.

As far as I know, you could read and write to NTFS in 7.04, but it was experimental, and things needed d/l.  In 7.10 you just mount the partition and off you go.

Why not buy some CD-R's from an online store and have them delivered? They come in handy all the time.

You could also upgrade from 7.04 to 7.10, there's quite a bit of stuff on the web about how to do that.

Oh, and with regards to Knoppix, I haven't got a clue. Ubuntu is my first Linux distro...

i just went with ubuntu because it was the first one i found when i was googling.... and i want more than one responce :-p
you need to change to something else? that's because you are tired of it? or you just want to explore the various features that each distro might have?
If that's the case, just download one, anyone,  and play with it. If not , i don't see the reason why you need to switch, unless the reason is because it can't do something that other distros can, which I doubt.

No actually you didn't mention that. But I don't see how your age matters anyway. Like I said, The disc is FREE, as in no credit card needed. If you know your own address you can order one. I just did, just to test it. The only downside is that it can take up to ten weeks to arrive.

Give opensuse a try, if you're tired of all the buntu's. They've even got an online installation option and it just needs a floppy or flash drive..... suse is the best linux distro out there.
