    « on: December 14, 2007, 09:58:50 PM »
I'm starting to wonder whether I have a memory leak or not as my computer has been on the fritz lately. A new folder just opened up on my desktop and errors happen alot lately. The new folder that appeared on my desktop is
    %USERPROFILE% it contains>local settings>Application Data>Microsoft>Feeds Cache>nothing more

Windows xp pro service pack 2 Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 1.70GHz 512 MB of RAM
NVIDIA Geforce 7600 GS video card

Windows XP is not prone to memory leaks.
    Post all errors, you're getting.

the main one that occurs is ->

windows exploror has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. If you were in the middle of something, the information you were working on might be lost Please tell Microsoft about this problem. We have created an error report that you can send us to help improve windows exploror. we will treat this report as confidential and anonymous.

this error happens anytime i close out control pannel or open the misc. files folder i put on my desktop also i can't figure out why I recieved that weird folder on my desktop

A new folder just appeared on your desktop without your knowledge? Is it called "misc", and you can't open it, because of error?

no the new folder that appeared is %USERPROFILE%

the one that gives me the error is misc. programs that i made but there are also many other things that give me the error such as control panel being closed out

        1. Run free online scan at: http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
        Post HouseCall log.

        2. Download and scan with SUPERAntiSpyware Free for Home Users:
        http://www.superantispyware.com/

        Print this instructions out.

SUPERAntiSpyware should be run in Safe Mode.
To enter Safe Mode, restart computer, and keep tapping F8 key, until menu appears; pick Safe Mode; you'll see "Safe Mode" in all four corners of your screen

            * Double-click SUPERAntiSpyware.exe and use the default settings for installation.
            * An icon will be created on your desktop. Double-click that icon to launch the program.
            * If asked to update the program definitions, click "Yes". If not, update the definitions before scanning by selecting "Check for Updates". (If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download and unzip them from here: http://www.superantispyware.com/definitions.html.)
            * Under "Configuration and Preferences", click the Preferences button.
            * Click the Scanning Control tab.
            * Under Scanner Options make sure the following are checked (leave all others unchecked):
                  o Close browsers before scanning.
                  o Scan for tracking cookies.
o Terminate memory threats before quarantining.
            * Click the "Close" button to leave the control center screen.
            * Back on the main screen, under "Scan for Harmful Software" click Scan your computer.
            * On the left, make sure you check C:\Fixed Drive.
            * On the right, under "Complete Scan", choose Perform Complete Scan.
            * Click "Next" to start the scan. Please be patient while it scans your computer.
            * After the scan is complete, a Scan Summary box will appear with potentially harmful items that were detected. Click "OK".
            * Make sure everything has a checkmark next to it and click "Next".
            * A notification will appear that "Quarantine and Removal is Complete". Click "OK" and then click the "Finish" button to return to the main menu.
            * If asked if you want to reboot, click "Yes".
            * To retrieve the removal information after reboot, launch SUPERAntispyware again.
o Click Preferences, then click the Statistics/Logs tab.
o Under Scanner Logs, double-click SUPERAntiSpyware Scan Log.
o If there are several logs, click the current dated log and press View log. A text file will open in your default text editor.
o Please copy and paste the Scan Log results in your next reply with a new HijackThis log.
            * Click Close to exit the program.
        Post SUPERAntiSpyware log.

        3. Download HijackThis:
        http://www.snapfiles.com/get/hijackthis.html
        Post HijackThis log.

I have super anti spyware already downloaded and everything I'll put a log up asap for it. I have the other 2 done.

Now i have 2 folders on my desktop one is the same the other is %SystemDrive%.

Its kinda funny the stuff that got uninstalled but hijackthis still catches traces of.

not sure if this is the right housecall log because i went through an annoying bit of work transfering it to something i can view without opening it...

only thing it found was cookies from popups

Your HJT log is pretty much clean.
You may want to open HJT one more time, and checkmark this entry:
              - O2 - BHO: Yahoo! Toolbar Helper - {02478D38-C3F9-4efb-9B51-7695ECA05670} - (no file)
              Click on "Fix checked" button.

Now, those strange folders...Are they deletable?

If this is a concern create a new folder. Then rename the file and move it there.
If your system runs without issues for a few days you can safely delete it then...
