    MS Word question
    « on: December 17, 2007, 02:38:56 AM »
Hi folks. First post on here. Hope someone can help me...

A colleague has a word document that contains a load of numbered bullet points. She would like to only see these bullet points when the document is on screen, but have them disappear for a print out.
I've pointed out that she can Select All and set Bullets & Numbering to None, and then print, but this leaves the formatting messed up a bit.

Does anyone know of a way of acheiving the desired effect within Word - I guess it's almost one layout for screen, and another for print, with the data / content common to both? I really don't think there is anything, but I promised to ask some experts  :)

Off now to have a look to see if I can help anyone else on here.

    Thanks in advance

    W

Not sure what version you're talking about, but I'm pretty sure there is no option for what she's trying to do (other than what you've already mentioned) in any version of Word.

I agree with quaxo.  I've used Word for many years and I don't believe it has any option to do what your colleague wants to do.

What version of Word are we talking about here?  I have MS Office Word 2007...  In this version, bullets are customizable and you can use all sorts of different shapes and images.  One of them is a blank white box.  If your friend uses this bullet, her paper will print without bullets, but still retain the bullet format.

To do this, simply click on the Bullet options (on the Home tab) and click on Define New Bullet.  Click on Symbol.  Scroll all the way and go all the way to the left.  Select the blank white box and click OK.  That should take care of it.

This feature may be available in 2003, but if it is, I don't know how to access it.

Geez, that completely skipped my mind. I can't believe i didn't think of that  :P

I kept trying to think of ways to make visible bullets disappear, not making them invisible in the first place haha
