deleted active partition!
« on: December 19, 2007, 12:17:04 PM »
hi there, im after getting myself into a spot of bother. i have a targa visionary xp-210. i wiped it and installed xp pro sp. 2.

but the drive had two partitions, so i deleted one and created a new one from it. i them merged the two partitions, using partition magic, which required a re-start.

but, when i restarted it turned out i had deleted the active partition. now theres no active partition, and it wont boot.

it wont read the dvd drive.

it will read a usb drive.

the only bios i can find is by pressing F8 repeatedly, this is what it looks like on that screen;

USB RMD-FDD : Generic USB Stor age-SMC

IDE-0 : TOSHIBA MK6021GAS

BBS-0 : Intel UNDI, PXE-2.0 (build 082)

[up/Dn] Select [Return] Boot [ESC] cancel

i have no clue what to do at this stage. can anyone help?

thanks for reading,
ned .

Travel to bootdisk.com and DLoad the WinME bootdisk.
Use the file to create a bootable floppy/CD.
Boot to the disk and at the A: prompt type fdisk and hit enter.
Use FDisk to partition and set the first partition active.
NOTE: You will then have to run format before you can use the new setup...

p.s. This will also load drivers that will enable you to use the optical drive...
