Cd Drive
« on: February 12, 2008, 09:49:16 AM »
I bought used computer, went to put CD in drive to load internet and it would not open. Changed out CD rom for 1 I know was working and it will not open either. It currently has Windows 95 installed and otherwise seems to work. Want to be able to fix it up for mother in law but can't put new Windows or internet on without CD working. Please help

Try unplugging the IDE cable and leave just the power cable in. Will the drive bay open then?

For Win95 / 98 you will need CDRom drivers for it to work.
If the manuf. does not list them then grab a WinME bootdisk from bootdisk.com and use the OAKCDRom drivers which are almost universal...
