    Word Pad
    « on: December 29, 2007, 05:41:09 PM »
I downloaded and SGN file and attempted to copy it into documents.  Computer prompted with the message unable to open and asked if I would like to use a program to open it with.  I unfortunately chose Word Pad and I guess in my hurry did not notice the prompt which said to use this program to open all SGN files downloaded in future.  BIG MISTAKE as I am now unable to download any similar file as it now makes it unreadable by the device I am downloading it for.  I have searched around and asked many people how to turn it off but nobody seems to know.  I need to be able to download these files and am now ready to toss the computer and buy a new one just so I can do this.  HELP PLEASE.  I AM DESPERATE.  Ruth D

If you are running Windows XP, try this:

    1) Got to "Control Panel" and then "Folder Options".
    2) Go to the "File Types" tab and look for "SGN" in the list.
    3) Select "SGN" and click the "Change..." button.
    4) Select the proper program from the list, mark the "Always use the selected program" box, and click the "OK" button.
    5) Close the "Folder Options" window.

All "SGN" files should now be opened in the program you specified.
(If that does not work, you could try clicking the "Restore" button instead of "Change..." in step 3.)
Happiness is not getting what you want, it is wanting what you get.

Or you can just right click on an SGN file > properties > change button > and select a different application from there.

You can copy, and paste any file without opening it.

SGN is not zipped file, it's Sierra Print Artist Sign file extension.

It is a compressed folder and I use Win Zip to uncompress.  When I download it is actually a folder that I download and the folder needs to be opened to have access to the file that I need to copy.

Locate the file in question. Hold down the shift key and right click the file. Uncheck the tick mark, then choose open with.
