    website colours display wrongly
    « on: December 30, 2007, 04:22:28 AM »
On my new Vista Home Premium laptop - Medion from Aldi -
I accessed getsuk.org.uk a site I am taking over as webmaster.

I know the background colour should be the speckled green that is available as background in Word - as that was how the previous webmaster had set up the site and how I view it on my desktop computer.

However on my laptop it is speckled pinky mauve.

I looked at the National Trust website as that should have green panels but that
did not have the green it should either.

I have viewed both sites in IE7 and Firefox with the same results.

My photos display in the correct colours and I have made a DVD of the photos which displays correctly both on the laptop and on my TV.

    My graphics card is
Intel(R) 945 Express Chipset Family and my drivers are up to date.

Is this something to do with Vista Aero? I tried changing settings there but have made no difference so far.

    Is the computer faulty?

    One very puzzled person!
    ???

Are you talking about the site www.getsuk.org?
Because on my computer the background on that site isn't green in IE or FF either. It's more a sandy/very light brownish color.

Are you sure it's supposed to be green?

Same for me...in Flock (browser) in Ubuntu (o/s).

Thanks both of you for your help!

I realise now that when I set up my desktop monitor I increased the green in the RGB as I found it easier on the eyes.

Do you know what is the usual/ recommended/factory percentage set up for RGB?

This would affect how anyone viewed my site - I note that the two of you had
slightly different set ups. When I set all three RGB at 50 I get a more blue/mauve tinge than you did.

Is there a recommended Gamma setting?
Changing it didn't seem to make much difference on my desktop, but a lot of difference on my laptop.

Thanks again for giving me the clue to my problem!

I also see a sandy/very light brownish color.  Can you go back to default settings on your monitor and then, if change is desired, use that as a starting point?

I had thought of doing that but have no way I can find to return to default settings on my monitor!

I am concerned because whatever background I set is obviously going to look different in different computers because of the monitor settings, so wonder what at what combination most people have their RGB set at?

So does mine on my Samsung CRT monitor, connected to my tower PC, which is the computer I used to view Dawn's site.   But, that probably doesn't equate to Dawn's laptop.  I bought a Notebook PC in July 07 and color on it is definitely different from color on my CRT monitor but I haven't experimented with color controls on the notebook.  The color on the CRT monitor is the truer color.
