    Hi there! :)

When I double-click on my hdd, i get a window instead  with a message telling me 'Choose a program you want to use to open this file:'

I have the Kaspersky 6 Anti-virus software installed in my computer. When I ran it, it detected the virus Trojan-PSW.Win32.WOW.aid. The virus is gone (I think) but the hdd problem is still there-I can't open the drive. I've tried to do a disk cleanup & disk fragmentation but this did not help. :-[

Can any good samaritan pls tell me how to solve this problem?  :-*

Did you scan and remove the infection in Safe Mode?
    What operating system?

Right click your C: drive icon and select Open. Then, locate and delete a file called 'autorun.inf'. This is what's causing that.

While this will fix your immediate problem, you still need to rescan your computer with several tools to ensure the problem is gone. I'll let one of the Malware Experts guide you through that.

          Hi Quaxo,

I still couldn't open my drive when I right-clicked & selected open.  I used an alternative to open the drive- Microsoft Internet Explorer. I then clicked on the Search box, chose 'All Files and Folders', typed in the name of the file - autorun.inf, then selected 'Advanced Options' and checked 'Search hidden files and folders'.

When I hit the search button, it detected a hidden folder in drive c: named autorun.inf, so I right-clicked on it and selected delete.

I then restarted my computer and double-clicked(fingers crossed!) on drive c: It opened!! :D

          Thanks

          Glad to have helped.

But don't stop checking yet. Let one of the malware guys here guide you through getting that computer checked out and fully cleaned (just to be sure).

          it opened which is good.

now if you have USB flash drive, install a portable antivirus software to it. Update and scan computer with it in safe mode to double check that your computer is NOT sick anymore.

The portable antivirus on your computer won't be disabled in safe mode so it'll work!
