« on: January 09, 2008, 07:31:12 PM »
If I have a Genuine operating system CD, let say "Windows Vista".

Can I copy the CD then put it on the HDD?

Will still be Genuine?

When you activate Windows on the copied version of Windows, it detects that the same product key has being used, and will stop you from using Windows. You can use it for 30 days, but that's all. After that, you have to activate Windows, then your s)!_$&#. Buy a new CD and use that one on the other computer.

This means: No. You cannot burn Windows Vista on a CD and install it on another hard drive. This is pirating.

Why is it you want to copy it? If it's to make a backup then that's perfectly legal. And if you use the backup as you would your original disc. I.e. only to reinstall Vista on the computer you've have a license for then Windows will still be genuine.
