basic problem - computer will not start
« on: January 19, 2008, 06:53:17 AM »
it appears I had a power outage overnight - when I tried to power up computer (Dell Dimension 4700), power came on, then there is a series of about 6 "beeps" and nothing else happens - fan is running - but keyboard doesn't light up and monitor is black - probably requires trip to repair shop, but am I missing something

Could you please count exactly how many beeps you get when you turn it on?
The beeps are known as beep codes. They tell you what the problem is.
Here are the beep codes for your computer.
