I have a problem with my XP sp2 sleep mode.  When I press the sleep button, the computer goes to sleep. I will come back in a half hour or so and the desk top is running again.  This just stared in the last week.

I have tried adjusting times in the display to no avail.

It might be that it's waking up because of an option in BIOS. Look for something like "wake on LAN" or "WOL" and switch that to off.

It can also be being triggered by such things as your e-mail client checking for new mail...your AV program checking for updates...or Windows itself phoning home for updates...
With the amount of info provided it's impossible to tell though.

update: I went to device manager/hardware/network adapters/realtek.../properties/unchecked allow this device to bring computer out of standby. My next step if needed was to do the same in Mice or mouses. This fixed my problem so I quit before I messed something up. Thanks for the hints.
