    Email CLient Help!!!
    « on: January 23, 2008, 02:10:51 AM »
OK here is my problems guys.

I have 3 different email clients. Outlook Express, Mozilla Thunderbird and Incredimail (My favourite lol). Anywho, I knwo that outlook no longer accepts free hotmail or yahoo accounts. So i thought id try thunderbird. I tried to configure it by downloading the necessary extensions plus the freepops but it keeps downloading the same emails again and again. They said to delete this Pop3uidl.dbx. which I did but nothing happened. It was still doing it. So I downloaded Incredimail, WHich was the one I really wanted and now the same thing happens with this one. If anyone can please help me fix this problem, then theyre an angel  ;D. I love incredimail and its really good. But i would really love to fix this problem. Its not urgent but i would love to find a solution for this inconvenience.

    Thanks in advance.

Well, if Hotmail and Yahoo! Mail can not be set up in OE, I doubt they'll work with Mozilla Thunderbird or Incredimail either, but I'm not absolutely sure about that.

Anyway, you might try Gmail, Google's email; it's free and can be set up for POP mail in OE.  So, it should work in Mozilla Thunderbird and Incredimail, too.

Hotmail needs the paid version to run on TBird...
Yahoo can be configured using freeware called YPops...
    GMail works great in TBird.

It would be nice to know how you have attempted to set up each account with details.

Unless you subscribe to Windows Live Plus or Yahoo! Mail Plus, you will not be able to get POP3 access to either account. It's not that Outlook doesn't accept the accounts, the Hotmail and Yahoo POP3 servers will deny you access because the account isn't a paid account.

As Soybean mentioned, Gmail gives free POP3 access to work with mail clients like the ones you're trying to use. I've used Gmail myself for POP3 for about 2 years and it's been great.

However, in November of 2007, Windows Live has made a client available that will work with your Windows Live account.

There is an extension for Mozilla like YPops, it will allow you to check your Hotmail account through ThunderBird.

http://webmail.mozdev.org/index.html Check out this, it may apply to you.

I use a Hotmail account every day, downloading the mail with Thunderbird.
Rarely do I ever send an email through Hotmail using Thunderbird.   ( Because I just read this thread,  I thought I'd better try it...  I did... still works fine.)
I use the Hotmail account for subscriptions,  like this forum.

I have zero experience with Ypops.    I use Webmail and the corresponding Hotmail extension.    (There is one for Yahoo, and it works fine too)

I do not have paid accounts with either Hotmail or Yahoo.    Just plain old freebie accounts that I set up ages ago.

If you want to do it with Thunderbird, and the Webmail extension,  here is the link:
      http://webmail.mozdev.org
You can download what you need there, and there are very good instructions there too.

Recently, I am experiencing a nuisance problem with Hotmail.   When I delete mail within T-Bird,  sometimes it is deleted on the Hotmail server, and sometimes it is not.    So slowly,   mail builds up on the Hotmail server.
However, Thunderbird does not download it again.

      Using here:
      Thunderbird 2.0.0.9
      Webmail 1.3.1
      Webmail - Hotmail 1.2.13
      Webmail - Yahoo 1.3.2

      I hope this helps.

      Update:

Webmail Hotmail - new version release.     Ver 1.2.14
      http://webmail.mozdev.org/whatsnew.html

Built in check/update worked fine,  but you can download the update there if you like.

After updating, tested Hotmail briefly.   Downloaded emails a couple times - worked fine.     Sent a test email one time -  that worked fine too.

Maybe a e-mail notification program like Pop Peeper might help. I have my Gmail, Yahoo, Outlook express, and another NZ based emails all directed to Pop Peeper. Saves logging in to those accounts, if you multiple subscription emails delivered everyday...

Well I figured that my free hotmail account is working with incredimail. It can recieve emials ok. But now I have the problem of sending. My hotmail wont send the emails from incredimail. the message goes to my outbox, looks as if its gone thru but remains in the outbox and then the message says operation incomplete and then nothing. My settings must be ok becasue its receiving, so I dont know whats wrong.

How did u configure the hotmail account in thunderbird willyw?  I have al those things u mentioned but its not working???

          Thanks

          Go here:
          http://webmail.mozdev.org
and look on the left side of the page.    There is a column of clickable buttons.
Go through them,  reading carefully -  especially "Account Setup" and the three below it.

Excellent, well written instructions are there.

Not me, sorry.   I've never used Incredimail.

But.... why use Incredimail at all now?   If I understood you correctly,  you have Hotmail working fine with Thunderbird now.

Or is it a case of you simply like Incredimail?
