Im having F Disk troubles
« on: January 24, 2008, 05:36:17 PM »
My Hp Pavilion ZV5000 laptop is acting odd, when I try and boot it up it goes to the Windows Logo/Loading screen and almost directly after that goes to the Blue Screen saying that windows had to shut down in order to prevent damage to the system.  It also stated that I need to perform an CHKDSK on my F drive.  Only thing is I don't know how to do it.  So if anyone can help me that would be AWESOME!!

Ok, so what's with the mention of F Disk in the topic? Or was that a mistake?

... that I need to perform an CHKDSK on my F drive.  Only thing is I don't know how to do it. ....

Information on how to run CHKDSK:

Information on how to get to the command prompt:

Side note:
It appears that you may have accidentally used a term that is a real command.   :)       "fdisk" .
Information on fdisk,  if you are curious:
http://www.computerhope.com/fdiskhlp.htm

If you are unfamiliar with the fdisk command,  it would be best if you do not run it.   For now, know that the fdisk command can essentially make everything on your hard drives disappear.
Windows, data, music, ... everything....  poof! ... gone.

Click Willy's first link and print it out...
Boot into safemode by powering up and tapping F8 repeatedly at startup and before you see the Windows splash screen.
Then follow the instructions Willy provided.
I suggest chkdsk /r.
