computer makes 1 beep then program stops with error

My computer is giving me a beep then shuts down the program that Im running with an error ,this is while Im trying to record a dvd  and run a game at the same time
I thought computers these days can run multiple programs what's going on can any one help with this
Im running with  a 975  bx  intel mb    8600 gt  256  video card  4 gig 1066 memory processor is intel 6400 2.1 duo 1066

That depends on what programs you're trying to run at the same time. A new DX 10 capable game can easily use all the system resources on even the most powerful home computer.

I have an windows XP ,the program that gets knocked off is my roxio when copying a dvd the error number I cant recall I will have to do the same thing to get the number

Since gaming and burning are 2 of the most intensive memory hungry applications i wouldn't suggest doing them at the same time regardless of the hardware you have...
