Floppy disc drive will not work
« on: January 27, 2008, 07:53:53 AM »
When I insert a disc into the drive, this message comes up:
'A:\' is not accessible. The disk media is not recognized. It may not be formatted.
I know that the disc is formatted because it says it right on the cover. I think the problem lies within the drive, because I have tried other discs. Any suggestions?

    Or quit using floppies  :P

But if you really must use them, yeah, replace the drive.

I wouldn't advise keeping anything important on them. Compared to what's available now, a floppy disk is just about the most unreliable storage medium. Sensitive to just about everything (heat, magnets, water, stress), they are easily damaged.

Consider converting what you can to CDs or other more reliable storage. If you require editing of the files, a flash drive would be ideal.
