computer help ?
« on: January 31, 2008, 01:26:19 PM »
My computer shut down and now when i turn it on with the power button, the lights and fans come on but that's it. i feel the  harddrive working and the DVD spin but nothing else. I am thinking my motherboard or CPU went bad. any help would be great.
the motherboard is a  ASUS A7V600 X and a Athlon xp 3200 CPU
thanks

    If the computer sounds like it is going through the normal startup motions but the screen is black, my first line of suspects would be the monitor or the graphics card.
    Make sure the monitor cable is properly seated and doesn't have any bent pins.
    Can you test the monitor on another computer?
    Is the graphics card integrated in the motherboard or separate?

      Are both graphics cards separate?
      You can try resetting the CMOS just to make sure it isn't a bad BIOS setting.
      Pull out the CMOS battery and leave it out for 10-15 minutes then insert it again.

        i only have the NVIDIA graphic card.
        This would indicate you have at least two...

        I took out the NVIDIA graphic card and tried an ATI graphic card . Neither one worked still got the black screen. there is  not a graphics card integrated in the motherboard either. Right now i have the NVIDIA card back in.
        thanks again

          My best guess would be the motherboard has gone bad.

            There's always a chance... I just think the mobo is more likely.

              ok i bought the new motherboard and now i am have trouble hooking up the front panel on my computer case this is what the book that came with my motherboard has what pictured is attached

              then my case has

              VCC1
              DATA-1
              DATA+1
              GND1

              VCC2
              DATA-2
              DATA+2
              GND2

              RESETSW
              POWER LED +
              POWER LED -
              IDE_LED
              HDD_LED

              MIC IN
              MIC BIAS
              R IN
              L IN
              GND
              R OUT
              L OUT

              PW SW
              SPEAKER

              Then i put together
              VERG_FP_USBPWR0 = VCC1
              USB_FP_P0(-) = DATA1-
              USB_FP_P0(+) = DATA1+
              GROUND = GND1

              VERG_FP_USBPWR0 = VCC2
              USB_FP_P1(-) = DATA-2
              USB_FP_P1(+) = DATA+2
              GROUND = GND2

              As for the rest i am lost any help would be great thank you very much for all the help

                These are jumper settings.  There so the pc can boot.  It should explain in the manual where to put them.  Check the manual cause some of these mite not be used.

                thanks for the reply i am trying to match up the jumpers on the motherboard to the wires on my computer case.
                I am thinking these are for my USB port on the front on the computer case
                VERG_FP_USBPWR0 goes to VCC1
                USB_FP_P0(-) goes to  DATA1-
                USB_FP_P0(+) goes to  DATA1+
                GROUND goes to  GND1

                VERG_FP_USBPWR0 goes to  VCC2
                USB_FP_P1(-) goes to  DATA-2
                USB_FP_P1(+) goes to  DATA+2
                GROUND goes to  GND2

                now i am not sure about the rest of these jumpers and wires. but i am think they go like this
                AUD_MIC  goes to mic in
                AUD_MIC_BIAS goes to mic bias
                AUD_FPOUT_R goes to R OUT
                HP_ON
                AUD_FPOUT_L GOES TO L OUT
                AUD_GND GOES TO GND
                AUD_VCC
                AUD_RET_R GOES TO R IN
                KEY
                AUD_RET_LGOES TO L IN

                  they are not jumpers, they are headers.

                  this is a jumper.

                  thanks for replying. the manual for the motherboard shows a picture of the headers that i need to attach the wires from the case to but the wires from my case are labeled different then what the motherboad has in the manual.
