laptop wont connect
« on: February 02, 2008, 05:44:58 PM »
I bought my wife a laptop last night.  I bought a Linksys wireless router also and got it installed and everything seems to be working, however the laptop wont connect to the internet.  I have never networked a computer before so im in a little over my head.

Come someone help me out?

Thanks, Jake

Your laptop should have a switch to turn network adapter on. Check manual.

Most likely not.  Windows should have it's own built-in wireless software that will allow you to connect to the router.

If you set up WEP or WPA you'll need to put those settings into the new laptop to connect.

Document everything as you will forget these settings after awhile  :o

I tried the wireless network setup wizard with a flash drive and still got nothing.

I couldn't find anything about it in the manual.  Where do I find it on the computer?

I found this in your manual:

so, first, verify in Device Manager, that it has WiFi adapter. If so, find the switch/slider to turn it on/off.

Most times , if u have a Sattelite Toshiba , just look in to the Place where u insert the Mic and Head phones ,
in the same line , u should see a switch with " On , Off " on it , This is supposed to be a Wirless link for u , Turn it ON , once the light is on , so ur Wirless adapter is On ,, thats it ...

That.  Once that was on then linksys found it and installed it.  Works like a charm now.

Thanks again for everyone helping out a noob.   ;D
