system restore & reloading windows XP with old CD
« on: February 02, 2008, 06:09:38 PM »

I am trying to reload my windows CD disk however, I get a message telling me that the windows program I have in my system is newer then my CD disk. I know there is a way around this but, I don't remember how to do it. Can someone please help me with this.

also can't use my system restore program? will SP2 reload this program?

Welcome to the CH forums.

The installed version of XP is newer than that on your cd because it has been updated.  You'd have to uninstall SP.2 - see here for various methods.

But why do you want to redo the installation?  It's a lot of work to reinstall/repair then get all the necessary updates again.

What program do you mean?

I assume that you have a full copy of the XP cd not a recovery version.

FYI there's a good read here.

Good luck.
