"My Computer" no rename folder option

Win XP Pro : when I create a new folder in "My Computer" I cannot [glb]RENAME[/glb] it from the default NEW FOLDER(nnn). Even after I create it and go back to it, the NEW FOLDER(nnn) name is permanent. The option isn't greyed out, it isn't there!
  Any help would be  ::) appreciated!

    Select the folder and open the file menu. Can you see rename in there? Have you been able to rename before?
