Software on ISO File - Help!
« on: February 06, 2008, 06:49:15 PM »

I have a software program saved to a CD as an iso file.  How do I open and install this program to my computer?

Thanks to anyone who can help!

It's a copy of some foreign language software.  I'm not familiar with what a torrent is...so I'm not sure if it is one or not.

According to my friend, the files are torrent files, but neither of us can figure out what do with them.  I keep coming across the BitTorrent program in my internet searches, but I'm not quite sure if it's what I'm looking for -- do I need to download that program to get my software to work?  The software is a program for learning French, if that's any help.

Again, any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

What technique or procedure did you use to create that CD?  See this reference for some basic info on creating bootable disks from ISO files:

Q: What is an ISO or disk image and how do I burn one on CD?

I don't know much about BitTorrent programs but my guess is such a program was used to download that French language program.  The BitTorrent program has no other significance here, it seems to me.

If it came from the Internet, make sure, you scan it with your AV program, first.

Thanks for the quick replies.

Unfortunately, I don't know much about the cd or the software -- it's something that's been making the rounds through my classmates, probably something that's been around for a while since no one I know can figure out how to use it.  From the file titles, I do know that it contains the software program and the executer (???) file on it.

Soybean -- I'll check out the link you've suggested.
Broni -- I've just run the program through McAfee, and it's clean!

Thanks for the help!  If you've got any more suggestions, keep them coming!  :) I'll post again if I get it figured out.

There is software that will allow you to mount the .ISO as a virtual CD drive.  Click here for a free one from Microsoft.  (Microsoft doesn't support it, by the way.)
Why is this thus?  What is the reason for this thusness?

PowerISO trial supports only files up to 300MB, I believe.

I'm not 100% sure of just what the op wants/needs.

If all it is, is that he has a big ol' .iso file, and doesn't want to re-burn it to CD,   and wants to open it -  perhaps to extract a file or two -    then 7Zip will do this chore just fine.

      It is free.

ever since when i start using powerISO, the maximum file size that i mount/extract was 945MB. i dont know why this exceeds the 300MB limit. im not yet tried to burn a cd using powerISO, im using this only to mount the ISO image.
