iTunes comes with QT. Try to uninstall both Itunes, and QT, and then try to install iTunes.

First of all, you're not the only one with this problem. I went through it myself.
This is what worked for some people, and worked for me:
Quote
1. Uninstalled all versions of Quicktime and iTunes, and ran CCleaner
2. This left one version of Quicktime (somehow undetected), so I ran a search on my two hard drives, and deleted all references to Quicktime (the good old fashioned way).
3. Ran CC cleaner again -- (issues).
[at this point, I restarted computer]
4. Reinstalled Quicktime (new version)
5. Reinstalled iTunes (new version)

i realised that the problem is bigger than quicktime.
i tried to open skype and it started an install box (??? ???) it told me that the installed product did not match the installation source (??? !!! ???)

i then downloaded a fresh install of skype and it would not let me install bcos it said it cudnt create the file prgram file/common  or something like that

any1 have any ideas y this is happeneing as it looks quite serious....

also, whenever i restart my computer, it sometimes tells me that my profile could not be loaded so it loaded the default one but my profile does load.
also, everytime i restart, my taskbar reverts to its default, sometimes my theme uninstalls itself and often i get a message on my desktop saying i need to "restore active desktop"

Open HJT, and checkmark following entries:
- O1 - Hosts: AmsServer
- O20 - Winlogon Notify: wingzn32 - wingzn32.dll (file missing)
Click "Fix checked".
Restart computer. Post new HJT log.

Looks clean.
Try to redo all QT\iTunes, uninstall\reinstall steps.

I'm not familiar with Google Desktop. Does it have some kind of cache, which you can clean?

i looked at the preferences and it said that deleted files would be removed from the index

also, new development, AVG free wont update its definitions because it says its installation is probably damaged.

WHAT THE H**K IS GOING ON???????

i am so lost with this.

also, not sure if i mentioned this but it all started when some of the icons from programs were missing, i.e. a MS word doc did not have the office logo, it just had the generic windows file symbol....

Reinstall AVG.
If you have Windows XP CD, go Start>Run, type in:
sfc /scannow
Click OK.

Hi Boo

I had a little time & so I had a look on the web & found some links that may help:

also, whenever i restart my computer, it sometimes tells me that my profile could not be loaded so it loaded the default one but my profile does load.

also, everytime i restart, my taskbar reverts to its default, sometimes my theme uninstalls itself and often i get a message on my desktop saying i need to "restore active desktop"

http://angrys0ul.com/blog/2007/03/30/restore-active-desktop-not-working/

Get rid of google desktop...

Yep... so would I.

If you have Windows XP CD, go Start>Run, type in:
sfc /scannow
Click OK.

You didn't say if you tried this (remember the space between sfc_/)

Have you?
