i have an old mobo my son gave up on
ecs elitegroup 755a-2
512 mb DDR333 pc2700u cl2.5 ram
asprie x-navagator case psu 500
western digital 1600jb HD 160 gigs
nvidia 2 pci graphics card
i have power to every thing but when i hook up the HDD ide
it dosent spin until i unplug the ide cable and no beeps and a blank monitor screen...
please help

Hard drives are not designed to be plugged/unplugged while there is power to the machine.
You may have damaged the IDE slot on the MBoard and or the drive itself.
Try the drive on another machine to see if it works.
As to the MBoard you could try a new IDE cable and another device on that slot to see if it still functions.
Hook everything up with the machine unplugged.

I would check the jumper pins, and the way you are inserting the cable into the board/Hdd, I had a cable with no bump to tell me which what up it was, and would lock up the entire bord untill it was removed or flipped over, plus mixed up jumpers dont help either...

the drive works on other machine.
 with just the cpu ram and monitor and kb hooked up the thing still wont post

Then you have most likely fried the board unplugging things with power to the system.

    Try takeing out the ram and see if you dont get a beep.  This would tell you if its a bad board if it does put the ram back in after you shut it down and check the video card.
