Powerpoint file sizes

When converting from a .pptx to .ppt the size of my file jumped from 600kb to 6mb.  I have to get the file size down to under 1mb and in a .ppt format.  Does anyone know how to reduce the file size?  I have already tried compressing the pictures in powerpoint but it didn't seem to have much effect.

Assuming you're converting it in office 2007, try opening the .ppt you already have that's 6 MB and saving it in an older version of office and see if the size changes.
