LiteOn 20X Super All White (lightscribe) dvd/cd writer & rewriter problem

Hi there,

My LiteOn burner can't burn anything properly and I'm not sure what's the problem..
in the process of burning or copying a file from a dvd or cd, the system unit just shuts off automatically..
does anyone know what's the problem? i tried googling it but no results were given..

just a slight information, i'm using:

LiteOn 20X Super All White (lightscribe) dvd/cd writer & rewriter
MSI K9N SLI Platinum (socket AM2 only) motherboard
Enermax Noisetaker II 485W

Nero 7 Essentials (startsmart essentials)
Windows XP

What do you mean by this? Do the computer power off?

yes the computer turns off automatically when i start burning a cd..
it burns till say about 20% and the sound gets louder..and then it turns off

This doesn't really sound like an issue with the burner.
Do the computer only shut down when you're burning discs?

oh i meant the burner gets louder as it burns the cd (as usual with most burners)

Is the burner the only drive on that IDE channel ?
Have you tried replacing the IDE cable ?

hi, yea the burner is the only drive on the IDE channel..
it's under the master socket..
the slave socket is free..

i've not tried replacing the IDE cable..should it be replaced?
the cable was provided by MSI..

The cable could be the issue...they do go bad.
Also double check the jumper on the drive.
A re-start doesn't sound good however for this condition...what have you added recently software/hardware wise ? ?
Any other issues with the machine ? ?
