Monitor goes blank: Any suggestions?
« on: March 17, 2008, 12:16:22 PM »
OK, so I was told that the monitor on this computer I got was the problem.  I checked it and the monitor works fine when I hook it up to my own tower.  Its the tower it came with thats a problem.  When I hook up the monitor the screen goes blank, so I disconnect it and it says the usual: No signal, check video cable.  I was told it coluld be the video card but Im having trouble figuring out wahts up. Im kinda new at this. Can anyone help, please?

What Windows version?
Go to Device Manager, and see, if there are any yellow "?", or "!" marks there.

Does it have a video card and integrated video, or one or the other? If it is a bad card, you should be able to hook it up to the integrated video and boot into the bios. Then you should set the video to either auto or onboard. Save your settings and reboot. now you should be able to boot into windows with video. If you don't have a video card, you will have to buy one, or borrow one from someone. Then you would hook your monitor to the video card and boot to the bios. Then set the video to auto or pci. Save your settings and reboot. Keep in mind that without the drivers you will have very low resolution and poor color. But at least then you would know that it is the integrated video that puked on you.
