DVD/CD player/recorder not recognizing some discs
« on: February 16, 2008, 10:40:49 AM »
I know this may seem like a couple of the other posts on here but I read them and I don't think it is. I haven't had any trouble until I tried to load Windows office 2000 on my machine. The last thing I used my burner for was burning a video from the internet which I aborted. I have since tried to read a couple of picture CD's that I had burnt on the player and it sees nothing after inserting them. My machine is only 2 years old. It will read a photo projects CD but will not even play a CD that I recorded with the player. I have cleaned the filters and also used a cleaning disc to no avail.

It's quite possible the drive has failed...they don't last as long as they used to.
You could swap it into another machine to confirm this...if it does the same thing the drive is dying.
New dual-layer DVD burners are about 40 bucks shipped @ newegg.
