Laptop emits brief screeching sound
« on: February 16, 2008, 01:04:52 PM »
Hi all,

Every couple of weeks or so, my laptop (see specs below) emits a brief (3-5 seconds) high-pitched screeching sound. I have not noticed any other serious problems, save for somewhat slow performance but I believe this is probably a RAM issue. My laptop is a refurbished replacement system from Dell. I was wondering if anyone has any thoughts as to what might be the problem here and whether it needs to be dealt with ASAP. Thanks for your input!

My immediate suspicion would be one of the cooling fans is getting ready to fail.
