after checking other sites -it is noted that emachines have problem with power supplies taking out the motherboard-the t2542 model amoung others-you must change both -dont try just the mobo or p.s. will destroy it also

I have never heard this nor read it anywhere that both a PSU and a MBoard need to both be changed or damage will result.

agreed.  The only time you would damage the unit is if you purchased the wrong parts.
