New xp install - no add hardware icon in CP
« on: February 23, 2008, 05:30:17 PM »
I'm doing a new Xp install and it isn't recognizing the cdrom.   I went to the CP to 'add hardware' and that icon isn't there.   Is there a command line for it to detect new hardware?

I reinstalled XP and it didn't put those things in.

Thanks.

I bought it.  Why would you ask that?

Maybe because of the fact i've seen just about every version there is in my short time here.
If it offends you that i ask...... you shouldn't let it...
Did you try and run the command line suggested ? ?
You may also want to go to Start/Run and type in sfc /scannow and hit Enter...
Have your XP CD handy as it will ask for it.
When done re-boot and see if the Control Panel applets are all there.
