verifying dmi pool failure
« on: January 18, 2005, 12:16:56 AM »
Hi,
when i boot my computer (running xp pro) it gets to verifying dmi pool as normal. and then tells me windows did not start succesfully and makes me choose between booting in safe mode, last known good config, or start windows normally. everything i choose leads me back to the same screen.  any suggestions?
thanks
Tom

thanks.  i changed it to boot up the cd drive primerily but when i boot up it still goes to this same screen. only change is that right after it says verifying dmi pool, it says very quickly "boot from ATAPI CD-ROM" then goes to the same screen with the selections i mentioned previously.

          and nothing happened ?

Do you have more than 1 cd drive ......
Do you still have the bios set to boot from the cd drive ?

just rebooted for the 5th time, and it decided to tell me "disk boot failure" right after the varifying dmi pool data, also says insert system disk and press enter.  the disk is in the drive, when i press enter the light on the cd drive flashes, but nothing happens

Was there any hard drive activity ..because it should have been scanning your system to see what it needs

do you think that if i was to put the hard drive in a different computer to try and back up my files it would put the other computer at risk? or work at all?

if you have a win 98 boot disk......change the bios to boot from floppy and then with the cd still in the drive let it boot and when you get A: prompt ......see if you can change to D if that the cd drive .....if you get the D prompt .....type dir and see if the cd is read

does verifying dmi pool data fail?if so go into your bios and disable the virus scan and reboot.you may have a virus preventing windows from startingif thats the case stopping the virus scan in the bios will start windows and you can fix once on windows.if dmi pool data passed and windows will not start then did you try to start in safe mode?or last known good config?what disc are you using xp home or xp pro?is it a complete install or upgrade?did you try to clear your cmos and try to reboot?how old is the computer, what cpu?may have to format and start over.

does not say it has failed, just goes to the screen asking if i want to start in safe mode or last good config. i have disabled the virus scan and still does the same thing.  booting in safe mode and last known good config all have the same problem.
cleared CMOS, still same problem.  it is XP pro.
i also found that i have the xp pro boot disks, so i ran them but after all the disk had run it said that it could not find any hard drives.  I am going to run my hard drive as a slave in a different computer to see if i can save some files. then format the drive.
