Computer wont start
« on: February 26, 2008, 10:39:15 AM »
Hi, i was wondering if you could help,

our computer had a virus about a week or two ago, and we paid £100 to get it fixed, it was running fine for a week and now its not starting properly again, when i turn it on it reads:

"We apologise for the inconvience but windows did not start sucessfully, a rescent hardware or software change may have caused this.

If you computer stopped responding, started unexpectedly or was automatically shut down to protect your files and folders choose the last known configuration to revert to the most recents settings that worked.

If previous start up attempt was interupted by a power failure or because the power or reset button was pressed of your not sure what caused the problem start the windows normally option.

Safe Mode

Safe Mode wutg networking

Safe mode with command prompt

Last known configuration

Start normally"

WHich ever option i choose it just restarts the computer and i end back up at that screen.

Please help, i think my mum will go mad if we have to pay the computer man again!

Do you have Windows CD (what Windows version is it?), or Recovery CD?

it gives me an option to recover it, and i can do that, but i really only want to do that as a last option, because my dad has a lot of his work on there. Before the screen explained comes up it reads "for recovery press F11"
so i can do that, but only rele if there is no other cure...

If you have more then 1 stick of RAM installed, try to start your computer with only one stick. If that doesn't work, try the other one.

You have to open computer case. RAM modules will look like this:

Make sure, you're protected against static. Touch any bare metal part inside your computer.
