4GB PC-6400 shows 2.75 GB
« on: February 27, 2008, 09:46:51 AM »
Hello, I have a new build, I have a EVGA nForce 780i motherboard with 4 GB ram (Two Corsair 2GB DDR2-800 modules) in MS Vista.  It only shows that I have 2.75 GB when I go to the window that shows the hardware configs.  How can I check to make sure I am accually using 4GB, or do I have a bad module.  I believe I have them in the 1st and 3rd slots on the motherboard.  Can someone please advise or give a solution please, thanks.  Can I check my ram memory in a bios setting??  Will Vista show more than 2.75 GB of ram??

You're using 32 bit Vista correct?
If yes you're never going to see full use of those 4 gb of RAM.

You will need to upgrade to 64 bit Windows if you want to use the full 4 gb. But upgrading to 64 bit isn't without its own headaches.

Hi, Yes, thank you very much, I am using 32 bit Vista Home Basic.  The website made me feel so much better, I was thinking something was wrong.  So can I ask this then, is it ever worth putting in more Ram in the future?

No, not unless you switch to a 64 bit version of Windows.
