    Browser Problem
    « on: February 27, 2008, 04:34:35 PM »
I am having a weird problem. A friend opened a store and we setup clearwire wireless internet and it seems to work fine. She tried to go to the franchise website and it always goes to Yahoo. I have scanned for browser hijacker, spyware, virus, etc. I can do a search for the website, then click on the link and it goes to Yahoo. I can type the web address and it goes to Yahoo. I have deleted temporary files, etc. still goes to yahoo. I tried her laptop and it  goes to Yahoo. I tried my laptop and it works fine.  The Clearwire store is a block away, so I walked down to it and tried it and it worked fine. I called Clearwire tech support and they reset everything on their end and he had me flush DNS and it still does the same thing. I got another Clearwire modem and it did the same thing. I brought the computer to my house and hooked it up to DSL and it worked fine. She took her laptop and hooked it up to her cable modem at home and it worked.  Any other website comes up fine, but the one that she needs. I have tried clicking on other links and it works.

It's very possible that her previous ISP used a Yahoo software add in to connect.
SBC or Bell maybe ? ?

I disabled all the add ins.  I uninstalled IE and reinstalled.  I took it home and tried it on my DSL which is NTS online and it worked, but I plug it back in here and it goes to Yahoo.

      This doesn't make any sense.
The laptop connects fine in other locations no problem but when she tries to connect on her connection it loads Yahoo ? ?
How would it know the difference ? ?

      P.S. What's her start page set at ? ?

Her home page is Google and it comes up fine when you start IE, but when you click on or type in the url of http://schakolad.com which is the franchise she has, it goes to Yahoo.com and she said she has never used yahoo as her home page.  I tried doing a system restore back to the 1st of February and it still did the same thing.  I downloaded Mozilla, and same thing.  That is the only link that I can find that does that and of course that is the one she needs to go to.  It makes no since at all.

I can see from the log, that you still used older 1.99.1 version, not the newest version from my link.
In case of Windows XP, it shouldn't matter, but in the future, please, follow the instructions given.
            The log is clean.

Did 'clearwire wireless internet' have anything to do with setting up http://schakolad.com?

What about trying a different computer at the store? (I know it won't work, but atleast this will confirm that it's to do with your ISP).

It can't be a server problem as you said you accessed http://schakolad.com at home (so did I).

Perhaps someone with more knowledge will be able to advise on problems between having a business website & the ISP provider for that business (if there is any).

             ???

That's one of the many strange things about it.  Her desktop doesn't work, it goes to Yahoo.com and she brought her laptop and it does the same thing at the business, but it works on cable.  I took my laptop to the business and it works fine.

              Ok, so let's clarify:

Her desktop at the store has the problem (I'm presuming it's a wired connection?)

Her laptop has the same problem (wireless) but is ok wired?

Your Laptop works fine - wireless & wired?

Everything is wired.  Her desktop, her laptop and my laptop.  I tried her desktop on my DSL and it worked and she tried her laptop on a cable modem and it worked.

Both of her computer the desktop and laptop go to yahoo when you click on the link for http://schakolad.com/default.asp? or type in the address and I even tried the ip address but it always goes to yahoo.  My laptop works fine.

Is the bookmark/favorite one from when she may have accessed that site from Yahoo ? ?

To me this is the only way possible these circumstances could happen.
I'm befuddled by a website acting differently depending on where the machine is when she logs on to that site.
If this were actually something that could be re-created i'd like to know how and i'll sell the idea to Yahoo or other takers...

She has never used Yahoo as a search engine.  I talked to the clearwire people here yesterday and he was going to email level 2 tech support and see if they could find anything.
