Rom Reading Problem
« on: February 27, 2008, 10:08:19 AM »
It seems my dvd/cd-rom is stuck in 'burning mode', I cant actually get it to read any cd I put into it. The cd doesnt spin inside it, but I dont believe that its a hardware issue. I havent actually burned a cd before, nor am I trying to, just want to install some software. When I go to properties > Recording Tab and uncheck the Enable CD recording on this drive and try to open the drive it says to insert a disk into the drive, which I put in and doesnt seem to take notice that its in and still doesnt spin.

Any help? Thanks.

Tell us a bit more about the situation.
When did the drive stop reading discs?
Why don't you think it's a hardware problem?
What happened? Did you install or remove any hardware or software?
Could you provide us with a brand name, model number and age of the drive?
Version of Windows on the computer?

To be honest though, If  discs doesn't spin at all when you insert them it sure sounds like a dead drive to me.

Running Windows XP, havent had to install anything new for a few months so I am not sure when it stopped working exactly, but it wasnt in this 'RW' mode when it was working, in that time things that I think could have messed with it was magicISO. Its a sony drive, though im not exactly sure what model, had it for probably 6 months, but hardly used it so not sure how it could just die enless thats just what they do.
