    crazy situation
    « on: March 20, 2008, 06:30:07 PM »
Me and my wife are on same network. thru router to net. Cable internet. we play Quake 3 together.

    Here's the situation:

1 week ago my connection is lagging out and when it does connect my ping to server fluxuates badly. Meaning my ping to server is beetween 90 and 800. Which before that we were always running beetween 40 and 60 on this server. Her PC is still at that rate.

I have tried different router, nic card and cat5 cable, deeply went over my pc, and have no virus and/or malware/adware that i can find any where.

Also connected my pc directly to cable modem. Same results

    What could be the problem?

    both PC's running XP pro.

    Things to try....

    Go Start>Run, type in:
    cmd
    Click OK.

In Command Prompt window, type in following commands, and hit Enter after each one:
    ipconfig /flushdns
    ipconfig /registerdns
    ipconfig /release
    ipconfig /renew

    Restart computer.

    I fit didn't help....

Download, and install TCP Optimizer: http://www.speedguide.net/downloads.php
Open it, and put a checkmark in Optimal Settings. Click Apply changes button.
Restart computer, and see if it helped.

Download, install, and run LSP-Fix: http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm
Restart computer, and see, if it helped.
    If not...
Download, install, and run WinSockFix: http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/Network-Tweak/WinSockFix.shtml

You could try to uninstall TCP\IP and reboot and reinstall it.

It sounds like your TCP stack is corrupted.
