I recently purchased a sony vaio at a garage sale..didn't take long for my teenagers to crash it..I do not have the original disk's that came with the computer...what would happen if I used a restore disk from a diffrent computer and then just installed the correct drivers from the sony website?

We won't know until you try it and tell us. I would not be at all surprised if a different manufacturer's restore disk would boot, check the BIOS and then immediately stop with a message like "Wrong machine ID", but maybe not.

It really is kind of strange but it seems like it is working...wouldn't you think the manufacturer's would put some kind of block to this?
I'm sure glad they didn't...I can let my teenagers live for another week...
