an iefox should exist!
« on: March 08, 2008, 12:30:08 AM »
an iefox should exist! Well ietab exist but microsoft and mozilla should merge and develop an iefox browser with strengths of both worlds mixed together!

what do you think???

like say internet explorer compatible with firefox addons or firefox that can transition into internet explorer when necessary without any ietab or the like so it's like you are running regular ie without needing to install the ietab (which still not as good as regular ie but good as it gets)

Mozilla and Microsoft have no reason to develop a browser together, although they have cooperated in the past.
What are these strengths of IE anyway?

It's a bit like saying "Hey! Ford and Volkswagen should sit down together and work out how to make a car with strengths of both worlds mixed together! For the good of all mankind!" (rolls eyes)  or "Celine Dion and Nine Inch Nails should merge and develop their singing skills into a killer group called US/Canadian Whining Nails With Guitars".

That dog won't run.

This ranks really high on my personal list of worst ideas ever. Keep IE and out of my FF please! The only "strength" IE has is tight integration with Windows.
If a page doesn't render properly in FF it is either because of some Microsoft integration (Windows Update) or because of lazy web developers who would rather cut corners than do a proper job.

If you want to do an improbable marriage of two browsers why not combine Opera and FF and get some of that fast Opera page rendering. :)

You only need IE because some websites are badly coded so that they only work properly in that browser. If all websites were standards-compliant then IE would have no particular advantage. IE8 is going to be standards-compliant anyway from what I hear.

The reason I use Firefox is because of the extensions.
If Opera had, say, NoScript and something like Adblock Plus, I'd be right there, it's very fast and I do like it.
IE, to me, has no strengths at all, and I don't personally see a single advantage to using it.

Elxr may just be wishing to be able to read IE pages in Firefox, which can be done with extensions.

No strengths to IE???  Come on -- it finally has tabbed browsing, too!!!   ;)

Many other browsers also have tabbed browsing.
It's not a strength, it's a feature which if it didn't have, would be a weakness.

Well, most features bring strengths to products.  In light of IE's historical vulnerabilities, it's not much, but that's kinda my point...

    I see your point.
But in that case, what I would say is that to me, it's not a strength because most major browsers also have it.
I mean this in the sense that I wouldn't say one of Windows XP's strengths is a GUI, it's an expected feature of a modern OS as tabbed browsing is an expected feature of a modern browser.
Of course there are exceptions to any rule, but you can catch my drift.

Absolutely!  IE finally played "catch-up" when it got the tabbed browsing... ::)

I'm quite sure the Mozilla Foundation doesn't want MS anywhere near it's source code.

Hey, how else will Microsoft "innovate"?

The hostile takeover of Yahoo isn't going well...

i already have ietab extensionsbut it's not 100% working like the actual ie standalone application is working. But it works mostly in general.
