Adding the RAM certainly won't hurt as long as it is the proper type...she is on the low end for XP with 256M....

ok was just checking back to see if any answers yet.. and thought I would add I cannot change my background on desktop neither? When I go into Display Properties on desktop all the background images are grayed out and cannot get rid of wallpaper on desktop neither.. dunno if is caused by virus or not, but thought I would add that!
            Thanks for any help!

            Is Windows firewall ON?

Is computer better with extra RAM? Was it another 256MB?

Uninstall PeoplePC Toolbar, and post new HJT log.

                  1. Print this post out, since you won't have an access to it, at some point.

                  2. Close all windows, except for HijackThis.

                  3. Put a checkmark next to the following HijackThis entries (some entries will be checkmarked to disable unnecessary startups; in those cases (marked with *), no actual program will be removed):

                  - O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045} - (no file)
                  - O2 - BHO: PeoplePal Toolbar - {A8FB8EB3-183B-4598-924D-86F0E5E37085} - C:\Program Files\PeoplePC\Toolbar\PPCToolbar.dll
                  - O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {4982D40A-C53B-4615-B15B-B5B5E98D167C} - (no file)
                  - O3 - Toolbar: PeoplePal Toolbar - {A8FB8EB3-183B-4598-924D-86F0E5E37085} - C:\Program Files\PeoplePC\Toolbar\PPCToolbar.dll
                  - *O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SoundMan] SOUNDMAN.EXE
                  - *O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Adobe Photo Downloader] "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Album Starter Edition\3.2\Apps\apdproxy.exe"
                  - *O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\program files\quicktime\qttask.exe" -atboottime
                  - *O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [iTunesHelper] c:\program files\itunes\ituneshelper.exe
                  - *O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [MsnMsgr] "C:\Program Files\MSN Messenger\MsnMsgr.Exe" /background
                  - *O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [SUPERAntiSpyware] C:\Program Files\SUPERAntiSpyware\SUPERAntiSpyware.exe
                  - O9 - Extra button: AOL Toolbar - {4982D40A-C53B-4615-B15B-B5B5E98D167C} - (no file)
                  - O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: AOL Toolbar - {4982D40A-C53B-4615-B15B-B5B5E98D167C} - (no file)

                  4. Click on "Fix checked" button.

If PeoplePC is your friend ISP, proceed to step 8, if not continue to step 5.

                  5. Restart your computer in Safe Mode (keep tapping F8 key, when your computer starts)

                  6. Open Windows Explorer. Go Tools>Folder Options>View tab, put a checkmark next to "Show hidden files, and folders".

                  7. Delete following files/folders (if present):

                  - PeoplePC folder from C:\Program Files

                  8. Turn off System Restore:

                     2. Right-click the My Computer icon, and then click Properties.

                     5. Click Apply.
                     6.  When turning off System Restore, the existing restore points will be deleted. Click Yes to do this.
                     7. Click OK.
                  - Windows Vista:
                     1. Click Start.
                     2. Right-click the Computer icon, and then click Properties.
                     3. Click on System Protection under the Tasks column on the left side
                     4. Click on Continue on the "User Account Control" window that pops up
                     5. Under the System Protection tab, find Available Disks
                     6. Uncheck the box for any drive you wish to disable system restore on (in most cases, drive "C:")
                     7. When turning off System Restore, the existing restore points will be deleted. Click "Turn System Restore Off" on the popup window to do this.
                     8. Click OK

                  9. Restart in Normal Mode.

                  10. Turn System Restore on.

                  11. Post new HijackThis log.
