frankie to clear things up, when u have an error like that it usally means ur RAM, so you may want a RAM upgrade soon. and the kind of files on there, no not ever single file, only files and programs that you are using on your computer, and when you shutdown your computer your RAM is erased(thats a good thing) cuz if it didnt erase you would never be able to run other programs, but plz tell us your OS and amount of RAM, to find this information, goto your control panel and goto the icon that says "System" click on that and you'll get a window that tells your basic computer specs, the last spec at the bottom of that window says how much RAM you have so if it says "256,000KB" that means you have 256MB of RAM, but plz give us the info so in case you do need a RAM upgrade when can direct you to the correct RAM to get and well tell you how to install it.

yes patio has a point; ever OS has to have a certain amount of RAM to operate properly, for instanse.

Vista requires 1GB of RAM to operate
XP require 256MB of RAM to operate

but plz tell us your operating system.

XP is stated by Microsoft to run with "some features disabled" in 64 MB of RAM, although of course that is a ridiculously small amount. There would be a ridiculous amount of paging going on. 128 MB is a bit more like it, and 256 MB is quite usable provided -- and here I think we will find the cause -- you don't have too many programs running at once. Whether or not you knew they were there!!!

I fear that this line of thinking will quickly lead to Hijackthis! logs.

either way i say that if you run XP you should have 512MB of RAM, 256MB of the 512 will be for the OS and the rest will be for your programs.

i read the RAM requirement for XP and it said 128MB minium and 256MB for optimal performance, then i said that you should get 512MB of total ram for your sys if your using XP so that 256MB would be for the OS and the rest would be used for your applications.

I think Dias is suggesting that you quote a source when making a statement...

This isn't the first time something you have stated was somewhat questionable without a source.

              Not picking...just constructive criticism...

sorry for the omission of source.
I stated that I followed instructions to access my control center. The 2.00 GHz  256 MB of RAM was found there.
I'm not sure what my system is. I have AOL and Windows EX home edition
One of them is probably my system.

if you tell me the model of your prebuilt computer i can help you choose a RAM upgrade.

Most of the time this is printed on the front of your computer I'm not exactly sure how to find this from software.

If it's a Dell all you need to do is travel to Dell's site and enter the service tag # on the rear of the machine and it will tell you exactly what's in that machine...
It will also tell you what type of RAM is installed if you decide to add some.

it wont it'll just use about 256MB and that leaves you with another 256MB of the total 512MB of RAM you have for your applications.

That's not actually how it works.

I agree, if you are running XP you shouldn't have less than 512MB.

macdad ...you need to not try to make this an issue.
Had you simply stated XP in your experience runs better with a minimum of 512M of RAM the conversation would be over...

yes if you get the ram i linked and install it you will have 1GB but only have that stick in not the others.
This should make your computer much more responsive and fix that error.

that would be even better! so i thnk most of us agree that franke should upgrade to at least 512MB of RAM.

According to my Dell webpage,my model does have 512 MB,with 256 MB of RAM
I would like someone to check my logfile for unnecessary/unwanted stuff that clutters up my RAM.
