I agree, if you are running XP you shouldn't have less than 512MB.
    Just from personal experience.

sorry for the omission of source.
I stated that I followed instructions to access my control center. The 2.00 GHz  256 MB of RAM was found there.
I'm not sure what my system is. I have AOL and Windows EX home edition
One of them is probably my system.

if you tell me the model of your prebuilt computer i can help you choose a RAM upgrade.

Most of the time this is printed on the front of your computer I'm not exactly sure how to find this from software.

If it's a Dell all you need to do is travel to Dell's site and enter the service tag # on the rear of the machine and it will tell you exactly what's in that machine...
It will also tell you what type of RAM is installed if you decide to add some.

one of these http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820134592 Seeing as max supported is 1GB and we don't know the clock speed and installing it should be as easy as opening up your computer and looking for the part that looks like it and replace it.

This is what I was wondering about...

                    Quote
you should have 512MB of RAM, 256MB of the 512 will be for the OS and the rest will be for your programs.

How does the OS know which half to use?  ;)

it wont it'll just use about 256MB and that leaves you with another 256MB of the total 512MB of RAM you have for your applications.

That's not actually how it works.
