    RB*.tmp files
    « on: May 31, 2008, 05:29:18 PM »
I have XPHome and Firefox latest versions.

Recently my Recycle  bin gets filled with files bearing names RB ##.tmp

    Most common are RB20.tmp and RB21.tmp .

I have heard that RB21 has some connection with malware.

Any idea about the probable origin of these files or how to trace that?

    Thanks for your time.

Do you have any other files there, or whatever you delete changes to rb*.tmp?
Are files sizes listed as 0kb?

      Thanks Broni

These tmps appear without my deleting any file. For example before I closed my last session I emptied RB20 and 21 out of my Recycle Bin.

Now some 30 minutes after getting on the computer again, I am finding a new RB22.tmp in the bin.

Yes, as you said they are of 0 bytes. Also there are no other files accompanying them.

      Thank you.

Create simple text file. Name it whatever, save it to your desktop, and then delete it. See, if it's listed in Recycle Bin as whatever.txt, or as another rb*.tmp file.

        Done.

txt file is marked as txt itself , origin is shown correctly as from My Documents on properties.

(old RB*tmp shows RECYCLER as the origin!)
