    « on: March 30, 2008, 03:03:58 PM »
My motherboard has a Frontside BUSS of
1066 / 800 / 533 but it does not say if this is MHz or GHz?

And ware can I get good information on what Overclocking realy is or does?

      It is MHz.

      What it is...
It is the act of increasing the clock rate of various hardware components (usually the CPU, GPU and RAM). Hence the name overclocking.
      What it does...
When you increase the clock rate you also increase the number of instructions a component can process in any given amount of time. Thereby squeezing a little extra performance out of the hardware.

But beware, overclocking have a lot of negative consequences too.
Increasing the clock rate also increases the power consumed, more power equals more heat and heat is the mortal enemy of all electric components. Too much heat can lead to instability and shorten the life of the components.
So you need additional cooling and a power supply that is up to deliver the additional power needed.
You also need a motherboard that can handle overclocking. Not all motherboards are equally suited.
Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.
