Is this normal?

I just bought a macbook three months ago and it has been having a slow startup and I can hear the fan turn on and off.  Is this normal?

What are some steps I can do to keep my HD clean? I'm a new mac user   Thanks for the help!

My first recommendation would be to take the macbook in to your local apple store and get it looked at (it's free).  You can make a reservation on your local store's website... just go to www.apple.com/retail and then choose which store you plan on going to. 

If it's a hardware issue, your fan could cause other issues with your laptop... so bring it in and get it looked at.
