    Restarting Windows XP
    « on: April 04, 2008, 10:54:34 AM »
After a power outage, I'm getting a screen that says We apologize for the inconvenience, but Windows did not start successfully........etc., then goes to Black Windows XP logo screen, then to Blue HP invent screen, then around back to the first screen I mentioned and keeps going.  If I scroll down with arrow keys to the options on the first "we apologize...." black screen, to safe mode or start windows normally, etc., it still won't restart.   Could anyone help me & give me an idea what to do?  I appreciate any suggestions. Thank You, Thank You, Thank You in advance if you can help me solve this problem.
    Thanks,

XP is most likely hitting a fatal error and automatically restarting.
In order to assist you we need to know what this error is so we need to disable the auto restart feature.
      Follow this:
Start the computer in normal mode and let it crash and reboot.
Tap F8 reaptedly during the bootup. This should bring you to the "Windows Advanced Options Menu".
From this menu select "Disable automatic restart on system failure" and press enter.
Select XP as the operation system to start and hit enter.

Now you should get a blue error screen.
Please post the info you get on the blue screen. (See the red boxes on the screen shot below.)

Thanks!  I did what you said and a blue screen Does come up, with all white letters that says:
A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.
        UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME
        etc......
It also tells me to disable any new hardware or software, etc, which I don't have.
        Below the technically information says:
        STOP:0x000000ED (0x89CB3430, 0xC0000006, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)

        Does that make any sense?......
        Sorry, I'm lost.
        Thanks for any help again.
