    V.92 Modem Driver
    « on: April 06, 2008, 07:25:26 AM »
Hi, Guys. Bought a Dynex model DX-M200 PCMCIA V.92 modem card on Ebay. The driver that came with the modem does not have the V.92 update. Nor does the manf website. Running Win XP on my laptop but goes to the default V.90 settings. Highest connect speed has been 31.2Kbps (my desktop connects at 45K on same phone line). The modem query shows that this modem can be updated to V.92. Checked a bunch of the driver websites but cant find any V.92 drivers for this modem. Question is......is there a way to upgrade this modem to the new V.92 standard? Would this be a firmware upgrade? I'm lost! How can you tell if your dial up modem is using the V.92 standard? Any help would sure be appreciated!!
    Thanks,
    Tom

You need to find out what chipset that card uses...Rockwell; Zoom, etc....you may be able to find it that way.

Thanks, Patio. Looks like Intel MD5661. I downloaded some drivers and will test them. My desktop modem shows a V.92 "Options" icon in the control panel but the laptop doesn't. Is there a way to tell if you have to "Flash" the modems firmware to operate in V.92 mode? The query still shows "V.92 upgradable" ???
      Thanks!

      It's usually a flash....
But BEWARE: Using the wrong flash may render the modem inoperable.
The difference you will see from V.90 to V.92 may not be worth the risk at this point...

I think so too. Here is what I get on the query:

        ATI6 - USA 1
        ATI7 - Intel Corporation
        ATQ0V1E0 - OK
        AT+GMM - COMMAND NOT SUPPORTED
        AT+FCLASS=? - 0,1,8
        AT#CLS=? - COMMAND NOT SUPPORTED
        AT+GCI? - +GCI: B5
        AT+GCI=? - +GCI: (00,09,0A,26,31,3C,42,6C,82,9C,A5,B4,B5,B8)
        ATI1 - CD08.55 - 738C PCMCIA - DSP PATCH: 3.20
        ATI2 - ROM TEST OK
        ATI3 - MD56xx
        ATI4 - Intel Corporation
        ATI5 - Full V.92 Upgradeable
               Present, 32K DSP RAM.000
               Host I/F:
               P. Mem. : 008 Bit 001 W.S.
               D. Mem  : 008 Bit 001 W.S.
               DSP loc : INT ROM
        ATI6 - USA 1
        ATI7 - Intel Corporation

Got any ideas where I might find the flash for this modem? As usual.......the Dynex help desk is in India! LOL! They go "What's a flash?"
        Thanks for all your help!

But just to be sure  See Here  for a full list of modem reporting features...
