AVG download fails

I think I have a virus that won't let me update my AVG Virus control.  I uninstalled it and tried to reinstall it, but it fails to install and I get an error message.  Any suggestions

Try another virus protection software... There's plenty out there...

    happyex......Here's what I would do .......go to another pc thats not infected and D/l Stinger onto a floppy disk then run it on the infected machine .....Make sure your not on line while you run the scan ........Get Stinger at ...... http://vil.nai.com/vil/stinger/ ....
